SOL traded at $108.76 on Thursday afternoon, up 13.63% on the day and at its highest level in six months, hours after Solana's first binding on-chain governance vote closed. The tally has not been published. As of 16:46 UTC on August 27, no outcome has been reported for any of the three proposals, so the rally is running ahead of a result nobody has seen yet.

That gap between price and information is the story. The market has already moved on a vote whose participation figures, the number that actually decides whether anything passes, remain unknown.

For context on how fast this has moved, SOL was quoted at $97.00 on Wednesday evening and $102.17 at Wednesday's close. It has now cleared $100 for the first time since February 2026, capping a gain of more than 40% across eight sessions.

What Is Actually Driving It

ETF Flows Are the Clearest Signal

The most measurable driver is institutional. Cumulative net inflows into US spot Solana ETFs reached a record $1.22 billion, with $33.5 million arriving in a single session, the largest daily figure of 2026, on a five-session inflow streak. Bitwise's BSOL recorded $108 million of traded volume in one day, a record for any Solana ETF (CoinDesk, August 25, 2026).

Unlike sentiment, flows are counted. That makes them the most reliable part of this explanation.

A Short Squeeze and a Technical Level

Market commentary attributes part of the move to a Bitcoin short squeeze spilling into majors, and to the break of the $100 psychological level triggering a technical breakout from months of consolidation. Bitcoin itself has been comparatively flat, settling around $79,027 with a 0.59% gain on Wednesday, while Ether rose 2.58% to about $2,506 (Rio Times).

SOL outperforming both by a wide margin suggests rotation into Solana specifically rather than a broad market lift.

The Governance Vote Is a Narrative, Not Yet a Fact

Several outlets list "bullish governance votes" among the drivers. That deserves care. The proposals are plausibly supply-reducing, but none of them has a published result.

What Is and Is Not Known

Known: voting on SGP-0001, SGP-0002 and SGP-0003 closed at the end of epoch 1023, around 15:30 UTC on August 27.

Not known: whether any proposal passed, the final For, Against and Abstain totals, and crucially whether participation cleared the one-third-of-stake quorum. As of this writing no tally has been published by the Solana Foundation, Solana Compass or any major outlet.

Why the Missing Number Matters

Passage requires two separate thresholds. At least one-third of active stake must participate, and two-thirds of decisive stake must vote in favour. Abstentions count toward participation but not toward the supermajority.

The practical consequence is that approval percentage alone decides nothing. The last public interim figure, from August 23, showed SGP-0002 at roughly 5.27 million SOL for and 547,019 against with zero abstentions, about 90.6% of decisive stake, across 24 votes (CryptoSlate, August 23, 2026).

Twenty-four votes is not a quorum signal. A proposal can show 90% approval and still fail if turnout falls short. Anyone treating that interim figure as a result is reading it wrong, and that includes anyone pricing it.

What Is on the Ballot

ProposalWhat it does
SGP-0001Ratifies the Solana Constitution and activates the on-chain governance program.
SGP-0002Doubles the annual disinflation rate from 15% to 30%, reaching the 1.5% terminal rate around 2029 instead of 2032. Roughly 19 million fewer SOL issued over six years.
SGP-0003Splits the base fee into a fixed inclusion fee to block leaders and a resource fee burned in full. Anza estimates daily burns rising from about 648 SOL to between 7,500 and 9,000.

Our full breakdown of the thresholds, the yield impact on stakers and the opposition to SGP-0002 is in our coverage of the governance vote.

What to Watch Next

  • The tally. Participation against the one-third floor is the number that decides all three outcomes. Approval ratio is secondary.
  • Whether flows hold. ETF inflows are the sturdiest leg of this rally. A break in the streak would remove the part of the move that is actually measurable.
  • The reaction to the result. If the market has priced passage and the vote falls short on quorum, the correction is to a position that was taken on incomplete information.
  • Epoch 1024. A feature gate reducing slot times to 300ms is queued for activation around August 28, separate from the governance proposals.

The Bottom Line

  • SOL is at $108.76, up 13.63% as of 16:46 UTC on August 27, its highest in six months and up over 40% in eight sessions.
  • The clearest driver is ETF flows: a record $1.22 billion cumulative, $33.5 million in one session, five sessions of net inflows.
  • The governance vote closed around 15:30 UTC and no result has been published for any of the three proposals.
  • Quorum, not approval percentage, decides it. One-third participation is required, and the only public interim figure covered 24 votes.

We will publish the outcome, including the participation figures, once the tally is released.

How This Was Checked

Price, market capitalisation and volume were retrieved directly from CoinGecko's public API at 16:46 UTC on August 27, 2026, and are timestamped in the text rather than described as current. Before publishing we checked the Solana Foundation's channels, Solana Compass and general news search for a published vote tally; none was available. Rather than infer an outcome from the August 23 interim figure, this article states plainly that the result is unknown.
